Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu organized a One-Day Awareness Workshop

The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, organized a one day Awareness Workshop on 16th August, 2024 on the theme: 'Women Empowerment through Legal Awareness’  the Anganwadi Workers and Supervisor at CDPO office, Raipur Satwari, Jammu.

On the very outset Ms. Kunzang Angmo, faculty, Centre for Women's Studies, University of Jammu formally welcomed all the participants and briefly spoke about the working of the Centre.

The first session was taken by Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies. She elaborated on various issues related to women like Domestic Violence, Sexual Harassment, Dowry deaths and Female feoticide etc. Further, she also suggested the various remedial measures to deal with these problems and gave insights regarding Legal provisions exclusively available for the women.

562363The second session was delivered by Dr. Saranjit Kaur, faculty, Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu.  She spoke about the concept of gender, how it is seen and perceived in our day today life. Further, she explained how social construction of gender is done in the society where girls/women are directly/indirectly taught to be submissive. She also deliberated on the issues like women’s health, nutrition and hygiene among the women and suggested that how women should prioritize their health by breaking the traditional myths related to it.

Ms. Tanvi Gupta, CDPO Satwari gave the concluding remarks wherein she appreciated the Centre for taking efforts to conduct workshop on such an important topic. She also narrated few cases of domestic violence faced by women and said that it is the traditional mindset as well as the existing discriminatory social structures which is the main cause of such cases and there is a dire need to sensitize the people at large.

The participants very enthusiastically participated in the workshop and shared their work details, and their personal experiences as well as raised many queries which were answered to their satisfaction. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Saranjit Kaur, faculty, the Centre for Women’s Studies.
