VC terms UJAA as vibrant platform to establish connect between alumni and their alma mater

Lauding the formation of University of Jammu Alumni Association (UJAA), Vice Chancellor Prof Manoj K Dhar today exuded confidence that it will go a long way in establishing connect between the alumni from within and outside the country to their alma mater.

“It is a very significant development and all the stakeholders deserve appreciation for their efforts to put in a mechanism and make dreams come true”, the Vice Chancellor observed while presiding over the first-ever meet of UJAA through virtual mode.

The highlight of the maiden meet, organised under the aegis of the UJAA, was enthusiastic participation of a large number of alumni from within and outside the country, who shared their views in making the association a vibrant platform for exchange of ideas.    

Prof. Dhar, who is also Patron of the UJAA cited the examples of many prestigious institutions whose alumni have contributed a lot by way of giving back in terms of suggestions, donations, time, energy etc. He exuded confidence that a robust alumni network would be put in place for assisting the University to further excel in its endeavours to impart quality education in tone with latest trends in the field. He also suggested expanding the outreach to the alumni.

Prof. Manoj Dhar formally inaugurated the membership drive by launching an online membership form.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof. Parkash C. Antahal, Dean Students Welfare and President UJAA gave a brief overview of the activities and objectives of the University of Jammu Alumni Association through PowerPoint presentation and also highlighted the various activities and events proposed to be organised in the near future to strengthen the connect between the University and the alumni.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Suresh Gupta, IFS and alumni representative to the University Council complimented the Dean for organising the high profile meet and offered to organise educational tours of the University students to any wildlife sanctuaries.

Prof. Alka Sharma from the Business School also shared her experiences and stressed on establishing connect with the students who have passed out from the university by having regular interactions with them to strengthen the network between the Alumni and the University.

Ms. Indu Kanwal Chib, KAS, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur and an Executive Committee Member of UJAA also spoke on the occasion and underscored the need for making UJAA financially viable through liberal contributions so as to serve the needy. She observed that the contributions could also be in terms of expertise or specialisation of the alumni in various fields, which could prove beneficial for providing logistic support to the association for the overall benefit of the members.

Ms Chib also gave valuable suggestions for making the UJAA an effective medium of exchange of ideas between the alumni, who are playing their important role in every sphere of activity thus bringing laurels to their alma mater.

Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar University of Jammu complemented all those who have contributed in making this association function, he also suggested valuable ideas to make it a vibrant platform.

Mr. Vikram Gulati also spoke on the occasion and suggested various activities to further strengthen the cause of the association.

Others who shared their views include Prof. Vishav Raksha, Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee, Prof. Sandeep Pandita, Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Dr. Ginni Dogra and more.

The speakers hoped that the illustrious UJAA will emerge as an effective forum like other similar organisations of the premier educational institutions of the country.

Besides other university functionaries, the online meet was also attended by Mr. Manohar Lal, Dy. General Manager, Nabard and Mr. Ajay Wali, Vice-President, Indoasian Pvt. Ltd. Both are the members of the executive committee of the association. Members of campus cultural committee and faculty and students coordinators also attended the meet.

Dr. Garima Gupta, Assistant Dean SW and Treasurer, UJAA conducted the event which was coordinated by Prof. Vishav Raksha, Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee, Prof. Sanjana Kaul, Co-Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee, Prof. B.K. Bajaj, Associate Dean, SW and Secretary UJAA, Dr. Pritam Singh, Assistant Dean SW,  Ms. Mansi Mantoo, Media Officer and Nodal Officer, UJAA.
