Jambu Lochan Boys Hostel sensitizes Boarders on Anti-Ragging , Affirms Zero Tolerance
Aug. 12, Jammu: Jambu Lochan Boys Hostel, University of Jammu, organized a crucial sensitization program on Anti-Ragging, specifically welcoming and addressing the concerns of its newly admitted boarders. The event featured esteemed speakers Dr. Gazala Noor, a legal researcher, and Mr. Anirudh Raina, Lecturer at SHTM, University of Jammu.
Dr. Satyapriya Arya, Warden of the hostel, inaugurated the session by warmly welcoming the speakers and boarders, with a special emphasis on ensuring a smooth transition for new boarders.
Dr. Gazala Noor provided vital insights into the serious legal implications of ragging. She emphasized, "Ragging is not merely misconduct; it is a serious criminal offense with severe long-term consequences for both victims and perpetrators. Understanding its legal aspects is fundamental to its prevention and ensuring the safety of all students, especially newcomers."
Mr. Anirudh Raina focused on the human impact, urging students, "As members of this academic community, it's essential to recognize the profound negative impact ragging has on mental health and overall well-being. Let's consciously foster a culture of empathy, kindness, and mutual respect, making our hostel a true home away from home for everyone, particularly our new peers."
The informative session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Nitan Sharma, Resident Warden. He expressed sincere gratitude to the speakers for their enlightening contributions and to the participants for their engagement.
Crucially, the program highlighted the support mechanisms available to students. All attendees were reminded of the 24x7 National Anti-Ragging Helpline (1800-180-5522) and strongly encouraged to report any incidents immediately. They were also informed about the University's internal grievance redressal procedures and committees dedicated to addressing such complaints swiftly and confidentially, including the University's own Anti-Ragging Committee and relevant UGC/State Higher Education mechanisms.
The entire program was conducted under the supervision of Provost Boys Hostel Prof. Lalit Sen Sharma, reinforcing the University unwavering commitment to providing a secure, supportive, and ragging-free environment conducive to learning and personal growth for all its stakeholders
