Centre for IT Enabled Services & Emerging Technologies (CITES&ET)

 

The Centre for IT Enabled Services & Emerging Technologies (CITES&ET) at the University of Jammu today had the honour of hosting Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairman of the Jammu & Kashmir Higher Education Council, on his first visit to the Centre. 

 

He was accompanied by Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi and Prof. V. B. Singh of the School of Computer and Systems Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University. 

 

The dignitaries were warmly received by Dr. Guneet Singh Sudan, Director, Centre for IT Enabled Services & Emerging Technologies (CITES&ET), along with faculty and staff members. The visit commenced with an interactive session in which Dr. Sudan articulated the Centre’s vision, mandate, and strategic roadmap. He highlighted key initiatives already undertaken, as well as those in the pipeline, aimed at positioning the Centre as a leading hub for research, innovation, start-ups, and capacity building in the IT domain. Elaborating on major developments, he underscored the comprehensive revamp of the University’s network infrastructure, e-Governance and outlined ongoing efforts to forge collaborations with premier academic institutions and leading corporate entities, thereby enhancing exposure of stakeholders to cutting-edge technological advancements. Dr. Sudan further informed the dignitaries about the establishment of an Advisory Committee comprising representatives from the State and Central Governments, eminent academicians, and industry leaders, including CEOs from the corporate sector. He emphasized that the Committee has been constituted to provide strategic guidance and expert insights, ensuring that the Centre’s initiatives remain forward-looking, impactful, and aligned with the broader objective of positioning the institution on the global academic and innovation landscape.

 

 A comprehensive presentation on the Centre’s six key verticals: Internet & Networking, E-Governance, Web and Software Development, Capacity Building and Training, Incubation & Research, Start-up & Innovation was delivered by Er. Jaswinder Kour,Service & Development Engineer. The presentation detailed the Centre’s achievements for the years 2025/26 in each of the verticals, along with its upcoming initiatives.

 

 Prof. Dinesh Singh appreciated the significant strides the Centre has made in strengthening the University’s digital ecosystem. He emphasized that the Centre, through its diverse verticals, holds immense potential to lead advanced skill development in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence. He commended the ongoing efforts and underscored the importance of such initiatives in building future ready institutions, encouraging sustained focus on interdisciplinary engagement and capacity building. He also lauded key initiatives, including the establishment of a Drone Incubation R&D Lab, enhancement of IT infrastructure, and efforts to foster a culture of innovation and transdisciplinary collaboration. Prof. V. B. Singh appreciated the Centre’s initiatives and stressed the importance of active collaboration with industry partners to address real-world challenges and translate academic research into practical solutions. 

 

Prof. Balaram Pani, in his remarks,highlighted the need to incorporate frameworks such as Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) to systematically assess progress in innovation and technology deployment. The visiting dignitaries collectively acknowledged Centre for IT Enabled Services & Emerging Technologies (CITES&ET )'s proactive role in aligning its initiatives with contemporary educational and governance priorities, positioning it as a key driver of digital transformation within the University. 

 

In his concluding remarks, Prof. Umesh Rai reaffirmed the University’s commitment to further strengthening the Centre for IT Enabled Services & Emerging Technologies (CITES&ET) as a centre for innovation, digital advancement, and transformative learning. He appreciated Dr. Guneet Singh Sudan, Director CITES&ET, for his visionary leadership and praised the entire team for their dedication and impactful contributions. He emphasized that such initiatives are instrumental in aligning the University with emerging technological trends and national priorities in higher education. Prof. Rai further expressed confidence that the Centre for IT Enabled Services & Emerging Technologies (CITES&ET) will continue to play a pivotal role in fostering research, entrepreneurship, and skill development, thereby creating new opportunities for students and faculty.

 

The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Jasleen Kaur, Coordinator, Centre for IT Enabled Services & Emerging Technologies (CITES&ET).
