Department of Sociology, JU organises Induction Programme for MA 1st semester students

The Department of Sociology at the University of Jammu held an Induction Programme on 6th August, 2024 for the newly admitted students of the 2024-26 session. The aim of the programme was to familiarize the new students with the department’s activities and outline the institution’s rules and regulations. Prof. Vishav Raksha, Head of the Department of Sociology, began the programme with a welcome address, congratulating the students on their choice of discipline. She emphasized the significance of the curriculum’s various courses for future career opportunities and explained the role of MOOCs and open elective courses. She also highlighted department’s achievements and the collaborative efforts of the faculty members in fostering both departmental and student growth. The students were also familiarised with the various opportunities like Display your talent, Green Campus Task Force, NSS and other such programmes run by the University of Jammu. She motivated the students to be gender sensitive and environment conscious in their outlook. Furthermore, Dr. Hema Gandotra, Associate Professor and NSS Programme coordinator, introduced the students to SWAYAM courses and outlined the activities of the university’s NSS programme.

During the session, the newly enrolled students of 1st semester introduced themselves and shared their hobbies, talents, and reasons for opting Sociology. The senior students from the 2nd semester shared their insights into the department’s supportive and academic culture. Other faculty members of the department including Dr Sapna Sharma, Ms. Kajal Kalsi, and Dr. Gopal Sharma also engaged with the students and encouraged them to create a memorable and enriching two-year academic experience within the department. Dr. Diksha Nargotra, Faculty member conducted the entire programme.
