3-days Pre-immersion workshop concludes at Dept. Of Lifelong Learning, JU

Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu  successfully conducted a Three days Pre-Immersion Workshop from 17th to 20thNovember, 2023 for the students of Masters of Rural Studies in the seminar hall of the department.

Ms. Mandeep Kour, Commission Secretary, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Govt. of J&K, was the chief guest in the valedictory function. Prof. Rahul Gupta, Registrar, University of Jammu was the guest of honour. It was started with the welcome address by Dr. Priyanka Sharma, co-ordinator of the workshop.Dr. Jeevan Jyoti, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, in her introductory address highlighted the importance of Pre-immersion workshop. She also informed about the events that took place during these three days.

The chief guest of the programme Ms. Mandeep Kour, in her address, interacted with the students and solved their queries. She assured of handholding for their fieldwork and internship programmes.

Prof. Rahul Gupta, in his presidential address discussed the need for oragnizing such programme for the overall development of the students, he thanked Ms. Mandeep Kour for coming forward to help the students in their future endeavours.

Faculty members of the Department of Lifelong Learning namely Dr. Vivek Sharma, Dr. Pallavi Sharma, Dr. Sandeep Singh and many eminent academicians, journalists, members of the civil society and students attended and participated in the workshop. 

 The first day of the workshop was presided by Ms Sheetal Pandita (Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Govt of India). She oriented the students about the various flagship schemes being launched by the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. She explained the changing demographic features of rural India with special emphasis on how students of rural studies can contribute in the implementation of those schemes. 

The second resource person of the day was an aluminous of Jammu University, Masters in Rural Studies Programmes was Mr. Lakhvinder Singh, Manager IIT Mandi. He oriented the students about the skill sets required for establishing startups such as digital skills and data analysis.The second day of the workshop started with the sessions of eminent resource persons from Ms. Chetna Verma and Ms. Shams Tammana from charkha foundation. The experts from Charkha foundation not only oriented the students about the importance acquiring linguistic skills set but also did practical sessions with the students to develop newer ways of capturing information and field realities. They emphasised on changing lenses of a spectacles in understanding rural realties with equal focus upon articulation in writing as well as oration.The third day of the workshop started with an eminent freelancer Ms. Swati Basotra. Swati undertook a session on emotional intelligence and through exercises explained the need and importance of emotional intelligence skills required in the present global scenario. She was aptly express how the emotional intelligence skills have power to magnify the success probabilities in life. Next speaker of the day was Madam Indu Kanwal Chib (JKAS), the key resource person of the day also oriented the students about the need and importance of empowering women specially in the rural context. 

Other present on the occasion were Ms Sheetal Pandita, Deputy Secretary, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Dr Amitash Ojha,Head Department of Essential Skills, IIT Jammu. Further faculty members of the DLL, including Dr. Priyanka Sharma (Co-ordinator of the workshop), Dr. Vivek Sharma, Dr. Pallavi Sharma, Dr. Sandeep Singh, and many other eminent academicians, journalists, members of the civil society and students attended and participated in the workshop. 

Dr.Vivek Sharma presented the formal vote of thanks and concluded the proceedings of the workshop.
