Mentoring youth is not a onetime activity; it is an evolving process, we as academicians need to get involved in this activity more rigorously in order to equip our youth with the demands of the global world. Under the guidance of able leader and acclaimed academician, Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Employment Information cum Advisory Bureau, the Career Counseling Cell of Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu organized one day career counselling workshop on “Employability Skills and Communication Skills” in collaboration with Govt. Degree College, R.S. Pura today.

 The programme was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Priyanka Sharma, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, 143University of Jammu and Prof. Preetpal Kour, Principal of the college.  The special resource person was Prof. Garima Gupta, Head of Department, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu. Dr. Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, EIAB, DLL, JU coordinated the workshop.

Dr. Priyanka Sharma in her inaugural address elaborated upon the roles and responsibilities of higher education system addressing the needs of the students preparing to enter the world of work. The said workshop is one in the series organises under the aegis of EIAB and DLL. She also said that communication skills and employability skills are required to boost employment prospects, enhance job performance, open up more career options, help people become more flexible to changing work situations and boost job happiness.

In her welcome address, Prof. Preetpal Kour, Principal of the college highlighted the importance and necessity of such programmes for the students. She appreciated the role of Career Counseling Cell in organizing such workshops. She stressed upon students to take benefit of such 45795activities, as such activities can shape their career and lead them to the path of success.

Prof. Garima Gupta, in her presentation, explained, in detail, about employability skills especially communication skills. She also gave insight of the factors that boost the confidence in choosing the right path. She also talked about MOOC and SWAYAM courses apart from careers in languages and journalism. 

The faculty members of the college and Prof. Neeru Sawhney, coordinator along with 75 students attended the programme.  Prof.  Vijayata Anand presented formal vote of thanks.
