JU's “Display Your Talent 2024 - Devika Zone” inaugurated at Udhampur Campus

In line with the visionary initiative of the  Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, to bring cultural events closer to students, the Display Your Talent 2024 - Devika Zone (Udhampur-Reasi), hosted by Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu, was inaugurated today. Organized by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, this two-day cultural event celebrates student creativity across 25 competitions, including music, dance, literary arts, fine arts, quiz and debate.

In the inaugural event, Sh. Prem Singh, JKAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, J&K, was the Chief Guest, with Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, University of Jammu, and Prof. Sarika Manhas, Co-Chairperson, as the Special Guests.

46646Speaking on the occasion, the Rector of Udhampur Campus, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, expressed gratitude to the University for giving Udhampur Campus the opportunity to host ‘Display Your Talent - Devika Zone.’ He highlighted the participation of over 150 students from various affiliated colleges and thanked the University for creating an inclusive platform to celebrate the vibrant talent in the region.

Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, University of Jammu, in her presidential remarks, apprised the audience about the brief history of ‘Display Your Talent’ and discussed the new format of the event, which is divided across five zones of Jammu Province: Pir Panjal Zone (Rajouri-Poonch), Tawi Zone (Jammu), Chenab Zone (Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban), Devika Zone (Udhampur and Reasi), and Ravi Zone (Kathua and Samba). Prof. Chadha encouraged students to participate with enthusiasm and give their best.

Prof. Sarika Manhas, Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, emphasized the Vice Chancellor’s mission of bringing the competition to the students rather than the other way around. She encouraged participants to take part in various competitions with sportsmanship and to showcase their best. 

The first day of Display Your Talent - Devika Zone saw students compete in Group Song (Indian), Classical Instrumental, Light Vocal (Solo), Classical Vocal (Solo), Photography, Rangoli, Poster making, Cartooning, Quiz, Photography, and Mehandi.

Observers of the event included Dr. Jyoti Sharma, Dr. Sarabjeet Kour, and Dr. Rajbir Singh, members of the Campus Cultural Committee. 

Results from Day One:

The Display Your Talent 2024 - Devika Zone (Udhampur-Reasi) event at Udhampur Campus showcased impressive talent across multiple categories. In the Light Vocal (Solo) competition, students from Govt Degree College Udhampur excelled, securing the 1st and 3rd prizes, while Govt. Degree College Woman Udhampur claimed the 2nd position. The Poster Making category awarded the 3rd prize to Oshin from Udhampur Campus. In Cartooning, Rahul from Govt Degree College Udhampur took the 1st prize, followed by Pankaj from Udhampur Campus in 2nd place and Bhumika Sharma from Govt. Degree College Woman, Udhampur in 3rd. For Group Song (Indian), Govt Degree College Woman Udhampur emerged victorious with the 1st prize, while the 2nd Prize to Govt Degree College Udhampur again and 3rd prizes to Udhampur Campus. The Quiz category saw Govt Degree College Udhampur win the 1st prize, Udhampur Campus the 2nd, and Govt. Degree College Woman Udhampur the 3rd. In Photography, Shivansh Bhogal from Govt. Degree College Udhampur claimed the top prize. The Rangoli competition awarded 1st place to Nidhmaan Arya from Govt Degree College Chenani, 2nd to Oshin from Udhampur Campus, and 3rd to Anishika from Govt. Degree College Udhampur. Lastly, the Mehndi competition awarded Mahima from Govt Degree College Ramnagar with the 1st prize, Simran from Udhampur Campus with the 2nd, and Mahi Verma from Govt Degree College Udhampur with the 3rd prize.

All zonal-level Display Your Talent events are organized under the leadership of Prof. Prakash C. Antahal, Dean Students Welfare, and overseen by Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, and Prof. Sarika Manhas, Co-Chairperson, with collaboration from the Rector of Udhampur Campus, Prof Yash Pal Sharma.

The event began with a welcome note by Miss Reya Sharma and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kamini Dutta.The events are coordinated by Dr. Kamini Dutta; Dr. Ritika Sambyal; Mrs. Taruna Dubey; Mr. Nikhil Khajuria; Dr. Jyotsna; Dr. Sunita Kumari; Dr. Maliha Batool; Dr. Som Raj; Dr. Jyoti Sharma; Dr. Prerna Katoch; and Miss Riya Mahajan, along with non-teaching staff and participating students.
