The three-day workshop on Capacity Building and Leadership Development for the implementation of NEP 2020, with special emphasis on Internationalization of Higher Education, inaugurated by the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor, JK UT and Chancellor, University of Jammu, Shri Manoj Sinha, concluded here this afternoon with a valedictory function held at the Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.
Sh. Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary, UT of Jammu and Kashmir and Chief Guest on the Valedictory Function of the three day workshop on Capacity Building in Leadership Development, highlighted the significance of capacity building in leadership development, considering India's position as the world's second-largest education system. With a substantial portion of the youth pursuing higher education, he emphasized the government's commitment to providing the best educational opportunities to nurture future leaders equipped to compete on a global scale.
Sh. Atal Dulloo said that as a hub for higher education institutions in the region, the University of Jammu plays a pivotal role in offering multidisciplinary education, fostering research-oriented undergraduate training, and introducing innovative programs such as the "Design Your Degree" initiative.
Sh. Atal Dulloo also underscored the importance of leveraging multiple interventions to maximize the impact of educational initiatives, drawing parallels between workshops like this and dynamic environments such as farms and laboratories where incremental changes and predetermined outcomes are observed.
He emphasized the difference between leadership and authority which are important aspects in capacity buildings. Underscoring the importance of the National Education Policy (NEP) as a crucial initiative, Sh. Atal Dulloo focused on tapping into the boundless energy and potential of the youth, likening them to a valuable asset capable of sparking positive societal changes.
The report of the three-day workshop was presented by Prof Manisha Priyam from the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), shedding light on key insights and recommendations derived from the sessions.
Sh. Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT of J&K, and Guest of Honour, highlighted the significance of the workshop outcomes. He stressed the importance of enhancing our global presence and fostering cross-cultural exchange to create a vibrant educational environment. Emphasizing the role of education as a key driver for achieving our goals, he advocated for the development of an integrated, adaptable, and skilled-focused framework. This framework, he noted, should not only facilitate employment opportunities but also inspire innovation and entrepreneurship. Additionally, he proposed the crafting of an innovative curriculum to encourage a well-rounded educational experience conducive to adaptation and growth.
Professor Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, delivered an address emphasizing the importance of implementing the NEP 2020 for the holistic development of the education sector. The implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aligns with this vision, aimed at empowering students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in a competitive world. Throughout the workshop, distinguished academicians and participants deliberated on various methodologies and issues related to NEP 2020 implementation, with the University of Jammu taking the lead in developing leadership for this purpose.
Earlier, Prof. Anju Bhasin, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, extended a heartfelt welcome to all attendees. Stressing the transformative potential of integrating technology into education, she highlighted its capacity to revolutionize knowledge dissemination. Prof. Bhasin urged for a collective commitment to fostering collaboration, creativity, and dedication, essential elements for driving impactful change within the educational ecosystem. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that every student has the opportunity to unlock their full potential and make positive contributions to society.
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of mementoes, to all the dignitaries on the dais.
The valedictory function concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Sundeep Pandita, Director MMTTC, expressing gratitude on behalf of University of Jammu, to all the stakeholders who contributed for the successful organization of the three-day workshop.
The Valedictory function was attended by the Principals from various Universities and other participants, Deans, Rectors, Directors, HoDs, Officers and staff of the University of Jammu.
The proceedings of the workshop were conducted by Dr Sumita Sharma Deputy Registrar, DAA.
The three day workshop had over 250 participants from University of Jammu, University of Kashmir, Cluster University of Kashmir, Cluster University of Jammu, members/speakers and participants from various colleges of Jammu and Kashmir region, Director Colleges and other important functionaries from the Higher Education JK UT, Deans, Directors, Rectors, Heads of the teaching Departments of University of Jammu, and Officers of University of Jammu.
Earlier, day three featured two enlightening sessions focusing on internationalization of higher education and the theme centered on “Internationalization of higher education in J&K perspective.” The chairperson of the session was Prof. Sundeep Pandita, co-convener of the workshop.
The first panelist of the session was Prof. Crig Jeffrey, from Monash University, Australia, emphasized that building a base of academic staff, researchers and developing bilateral relations with India and Australia is important to emerge stronger for global opportunities for students in meeting higher education standards.
The second panelist of the session, Dr. Archana Thakur, Joint Secretary UGC, added that it is imperative for all, including UGC to come together to promote internationalization of higher education. She said that many universities will open their branches very soon and such collaboration will help in mitigating barriers to make India a global knowledge destination and encourage faculty and students from different perspectives. The National credit framework will play a remarkable role in the certification of students, she added.
During the session, panelists also discussed research in the field of climate change, global health, cyber security, food and agriculture where India and Australia can collaborate together.
The other session on the theme “Quality Intervention in pedagogy & Assessment of teacher Education,” was chaired by Prof. P.K Srivastava, Director DD & OE, University of Jammu. Prof. Renu Nanda, HOD Education Department, University of Jammu, emphasizing NEP will lay the foundation of new India focusing on how to think forward in the direction of teachers’ development and will also enable the youth to excel and shine in different aspects of life.
The second panelist of the session, Prof. Seema Naz, Govt. College of Education, Srinagar, said that NEP focuses on quality education and effective teaching can make it happen with the help of teacher education programmes. She said NEP will focus on the world in entirety. She added that teachers should move from the traditional style of teaching to the new one that includes the involvement of students with critical thinking and there is a need for change in pedagogy. While concluding the session, Prof. Anju Bhasin, Dean Academic Affairs and Convenor, Prof. S.K.Pandita, Co-convenor, and Prof. Manisha Priyan from NIEPA felicitated the speakers and chairperson of today's session with the mementos.
The workshop served as a platform for fruitful discussions and knowledge exchange, reinforcing the collective commitment to advancing education and leadership development.
