TWO-WEEK REFRESHER COURSE IN EARTH SCIENCES BEGINS AT JU

A two-week online refresher course in Earth Sciences organized by UGC-MMTTCUniversity of Jammu in collaboration with the Department of Geology was inaugurated today.

Prof Hari B. Srivastava, Vice Chancellor, Siddhartha University, and famous Structural Geologist was the Chief Guest of the function. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Srivastava discussed the Himalayan geology and tectonics  and said that one of the key features that make the Himalayas a geological treasure is the presence of the suture zones, where the Indian and Eurasian plates have converged and these zones provide a unique opportunity for us to study the complex interactions between these plates. “Understanding these processes not only enhances our theoretical knowledge but also has practical implications, especially in terms of seismic activity and natural hazard assessment”, he added.

Prof Sandeep Pandita, Director MMTTC, University of Jammu informed the future programs of MMTTC and encouraged the teachers to get benefited out of the regular programs on National Education Policy (NEP) being organized by the center.

Earlier Prof Pankaj Srivastava, the Coordinator of the programme informed in detail about the various topics being covered in this course. He informed that about 30 participants from different parts of the country are taking part in this refresher course.
