Public Lecture on “Israel-Palestine Recent Crisis: Role of the UN and ICJ” organized at JU

The Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS),  University of Jammu organized a Public Lecture titled “Israel-Palestine Recent Crisis: Role of the UN and ICJ” today in its seminar hall.

 The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a tribute to Bharat Mata by Prof. Virender Koundal, Director DSRS, and Prof. Rajesh Kumar, the resource person, along with other distinguished guests.

 Prof. Virender Koundal welcomed the attendees and provided an overview of the theme of the lecture before inviting Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar, to share insights on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

 In his presentation, titled “Israel-Palestine Recent Crisis: Role of the UN and ICJ,” Prof. Rajesh Kumar delved into the historical roots of the conflict, emphasizing its significance during the Cold War and its evolution into the present crisis. He argued that this conflict was the major reason and focus of the Cold War politics and that divided East and West as well as the Muslim World became the center of attention from the 1950s that witnessed different wars between Israel and the Arabian states and many-fold militarized crises to the present times.

 Shifting focus to the role of the United Nations (UN) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Prof. Rajesh highlighted the varied stands taken by the UN on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Since its founding in 1948, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has adopted more than 80 resolutions directly related to the Arab–Israeli conflict. He stressed the importance of international cooperation in resolving the conflict, urging India to play a proactive role given its growing global profile.

 Concluding the lecture, Prof. Virender Koundal offered remarks on the Arab-Israeli conflict and honored Prof. Rajesh with a memento. The event was attended by faculty members, including Dr. Mohd. Monir Alam, Dr. Suneel Kumar, Dr. Surinder Mohan, Dr. Ganesh Malhotra, and Dr. Ranjan Sharma, as well as non-teaching staff, postgraduate students, and research scholars from DSRS and the University of Jammu.

 Dr. Ganesh Malhotra conducted the seminar proceedings gracefully and expressed gratitude during the vote of thanks.
