Department of Zoology, University of Jammu Hosts Two-Day Workshop on Advanced Laboratory Techniques in Zoology

The Department of Zoology at the University of Jammu proudly organised a two-day workshop titled "Laboratory Techniques in Zoology-1" from February 29th to March 1st. The workshop, held under the aegis of the DBT Builder Programme and sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, marked a significant milestone in advancing academic and professional expertise in Zoology. The inauguration of the event was graced by the esteemed presence of Professor M. K. Dhar, Director of AcSIR, Gaziabad, who delivered an insightful address highlighting the invaluable contributions of modern laboratory techniques to academic and professional domains. Professor Dhar particularly emphasised the pivotal role of contemporary methodologies in genetic studies, thereby underlining the workshop's relevance in the current scientific landscape. Professor Seema Langer, Head of the Department of Zoology and Convenor of the workshop, provided a comprehensive overview of the objectives and aspirations of the DBT builder project. This prestigious project, awarded to the University of Jammu, fosters collaboration across various disciplines within Life Sciences to propel groundbreaking research endeavours. Dr. Arti Sharma, the organising secretary of the workshop, elucidated that the event saw enthusiastic participation from approximately 75 attendees, including faculty members and undergraduate students from diverse colleges and universities across the Jammu province. Dr. Sharma outlined the diverse range of activities for the workshop, emphasising hands-on training sessions focusing on cytogenetics and analytical techniques in ecology. The program's culmination was marked by a vote of thanks extended by Dr. Ripu Daman Parihar, acknowledging the collective efforts that contributed to the workshop's success. The organising committee, comprising faculty members including Dr Parvinder Kumar, Dr Rakesh Panjaliya, Dr Chinmoyee Maharana, Dr Pankaj Chhiber, Dr Raman Jasrotia, alongside the dedicated non-teaching faculty of the department, played a pivotal role in orchestrating this intellectually enriching event.
