Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu visited “Flowing Thread- Reimagining the Tawi River’s Cultural Legacy’” an installation artwork on the banks of Tawi River, near Bajalta, Jammu.
Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal. Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu along with the members of Faculty, students and other dignitaries were present in the programme as part of a one day educational tour.
According to Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, such study tours are important part of study and provide a platform to young students to interact and learn from established and renowned artists and personalities. The students and faculty members of Visual Arts, who were present in the programme included faculty members, Milan Sharma, Jasleen Singh, Simran Dogra, Praveen Gupta and Rohit Verma.
The installation created by Amit Singh Salathia, a Jammu-based sculptor and painter, now working in Delhi, was put on display at the bank of Tawi River, at village Malhori, Jagir, Bajalta Jammu. The Installation is designed to contribute to the cleaning of River Tawi and makes the upcoming generation of Duggar land aware about the customs, traditions and rituals of folklore with nuances.
Speaking on this occasion Padma Shri Rajindar Tiku, an eminent sculptor of India, said that the River Installation is the unique creation in itself. He appreciated the initiative taken by the artists and poets of Jammu who presented poetry in the form of singing and acting on the folklores related to Tawi River.. The aspiring visual artists from Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), Jammu along with their mentors also made artworks on the theme of Nature in the vicinity.
