A two day workshop on IoT and its Industrial Applications, started today, on 8th February, 2024, in the Department of Computer Science & IT, University of Jammu (JU) in collaboration with M/s. AdvanceTech India Pvt. Ltd. The objective of the workshop is to provide hands on practical training to the students, scholars and faculty members in the domain of Internet of Things (IoT) Prof. Pankaj Srivastava, Director, Distance and online Education and former Dean Students Welfare, JU was the chief guest of the occasion. While addressing the participants, Prof. Srivastava appreciated the efforts of the department in providing exposure to the students and faculty in the latest fields of computer science. Prof. Srivastava emphasized that IoT is the technology of future and hoped that the interested students shall be provided opportunity by the industry for projects and placements.
Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, Head, Department of Computer Science & IT, while welcoming the dignitaries said that Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, has been very keen to establish academia industry interactions and this workshop is organized under his dynamic leadership and vision. Prof. Abrol also shared that an MoU has been signed between the University of Jammu and M/s. AdvanceTech India Pvt. Ltd., recently. Prof. Abrol elaborated the achievements of the department in the last few years including organization of Faculty Development Programme (FDPs), MOOCs and LMS, Techsaksham, workshops on e-Yantra in collaboration with IIT Bombay, expert talks on different advanced areas like finger printing, biometric, and human authentication, mind matters, besides, interactions of the students with Director, NIC, J&K. Prof. Abrol further apprised the participants about the availability of the latest infrastructure, hardwares, softwares, networking and other digital resources available in the department for the benefit of the students.
Mr. Ashish Verma, Head, Operation Manager and Execution, M/s. AdvanceTech India Pvt. Ltd., expressed his gratitude to department for inviting and organizing technical workshop on IoT. He said that the participants shall be working on the latest IoT kits which have been specifically arranged in sizeable number by the industry and have been installed in the labs of the department for the workshop purpose. He further added that Mr. Ankur Rawat and Mr. Gopal will conduct the technical sessions of two day workshop.
Prof. Lalit Sen Sharma, Co-Convener of the workshop discussed about the significance of design and development of sensor based systems and application of IoT in different fields. He hoped that the students shall take lead from the interaction with the industry resource persons that will help them in their projects, dissertations, and placement efforts.

The participants of the workshop included the students, scholars, faculty members from the Department of Computer Science & IT, Department of Electronics, and Kathua Campus of the University.
