The successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon made the entire nation’s heart swell in pride and patriotism. Following the tune, the Department of Botany, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the local chapter of National Academy of Sciences India, (NASI) Allahabad, celebrated this momentous occasion along with students and research scholars. The event showcased different aspects of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. The historical perspective of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Government of India, was presented by Ms. Harnish Kour, while Ms. Maithili Manhas enthralled the audience with a visual documentary of ISRO, explaining the various aspects of the Lunar mission. The hard work and efforts of all the scientists involved in the Chandrayaan-3 mission are praiseworthy. The team, consisting of more than 54 women scientists, proved the equal contribution of both men and women scientists in the Chandrayaan-3 mission, a grand success as narrated by Ms. Garima Verma. With this, India has become the first country in the world to land on the south pole of the Moon. This scientific breakthrough will make India a central player in space-related explorations in Asia and at the global level, said Ms. Sanjana Sharma. A poem by Ms. Lavanaya Abrol portrayed the hard work and aspirations of ISRO which led to the success of this mission. All the students of MSc II semester sang patriotic songs in Hindi and Dogri, while chanting Bharat Mata Ki Jai. Proceedings of the event were conducted by Ms. Janbi Sharma and Mr. Azhar. Earlier, Prof. Veenu Kaul, Head, Department of Botany welcomed the Chief Guest of the event, Prof. R.N. Gohil, former Head and presently Secretary of the local chapter of NASI and Guest of Honour, Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar, Director, Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), and Former Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu. Prof. Kaul spoke about the significance of the lunar mission and importance of its successful landing in terms of scientific and technological breakthroughs at the world level. Prof. R.N. Gohil addressed the audience and shared his vast experience of scientific progress made by the nation over the last few decades. From a time when considered backward, India has risen to the pinnacle of science and technology leading the world at present, said Prof. Gohil. For the benefit of young students and scholars, he also emphasized upon the role of NASI in inculcating scientific temper. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. M.K. Dhar congratulated the audience and the entire nation for the success of Chandrayaan-3. Prof. Dhar motivated students and scholars to do research and studies with single-minded devotion and focus, both being the mantra to success. Prominent among those who attended the event included Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Prof. Namrata Sharma, Prof. Susheel Verma, Dr. Geeta, Dr. Sikander Pal, Dr. Skarma Nonzom Dr. Romica, Dr. Sajan, Dr. Sapna and Mr. Abhishek along with Prof. B.K. Bajaj, Dr. Madhulika, Dr. Aniket, etc from sister Departments of Life Sciences. Ending with National Anthem, the event really inspired the students and research scholars to work in a coordinated and focused manner to make our great nation even greater and the best in the world.
