Female students in the University has increased over the years which indeed is a matter of pride, said Prof Dhar
To mark the celebrations of Azadika Amrut Mahotsav and International Women’s day, a portrait of Padambhushan Tarabai Modak, a pioneer educationist in the field of preschool education was unveiled by Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu at the Department of Home Science in the presence of Prof. Rajni Dhingra, DRS, Prof. Jasbir Singh., Controller of Examination, Prof. Neeru Sharma, Department of Home Science, Prof.Sundeep Pandita, Director, UGC- HRDC, Prof. Samridhi Arora, Head of the Department, Prof. Shashi Manhas and Dr.Sarika Manhas, Sh.Ranjeet Kalra, teaching faculty, UGC- HRDC, research scholars, non- teaching staff, and students of the Department of Home Science. On the occasion, Prof. Dhar shared that it is a matter of great pleasure to unveil the portrait of a renowned educationist who had worked for the society and is an inspiration for the youth. In his opinion, society is changing gradually and with the implementation of various policies, much is being done to favour equality that is the outcome of our actions. Highlighting a famous quote “Behind every successful man, there is always a woman” he expressed his view that it is very unfortunate that we place women behind rather she is the initiator and the one responsible for that success. He shared that the number of female students in the University has increased over the years which indeed is a matter of pride. Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies in her address highlighted that every woman must love herself, be patient and focus on her energies towards creating a better social system. Prof. Neeru Sharma, Senior faculty member in the Department of Home Science shared her views that the contribution of women to society and other sectors needs to be acknowledged. She further added that men and women need to support and respect each other and give space to one another.
In the opening remarks Prof. Samridhi Arora, Head, Department of Home Science highlighted the contribution of Tarabai Modak in the field of preschool education. The motive of installing her portrait is to bring the work of an Indian pioneer educationist to prominence. She has worked extensively at the grass-root level in the establishment of Balwadis in various tribal and other areas of Maharashtra. Prof. Arora added that the modern-day concept of Anganwadi is the brainchild of Tarabai Modak. She opined that the Department already has a Centre for Early Childhood Care and Education and intends to highlight the work of eminent educationists in the field of Home Science through various activities in near future.
