The Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu has commenced a 10-day internship program for the students of Cluster University, PSPS Women College, Gandhi Nagar Jammu. This initiative aims to provide practical exposure and hands-on experience to the students, enhancing their understanding of the media industry.
The inaugural day of the internship was marked by an interactive session with the renowned journalist Pradeep Dutta, Bureau Chief of Times Now, Jammu. Pradeep Dutta shared his vast experience in the field of journalism, offering valuable insights and guidance to the students. His interaction was both inspiring and educational, motivating the students to pursue excellence in their journalistic endeavors.
During his interaction, Pradeep Dutta also shared his perspective on conflict journalism. He said, "Conflict journalism is not just about reporting the facts; it’s about understanding the human dimension of the stories we cover. As journalists, we must strive to be the voice for those who are often unheard, bringing their stories to the forefront with empathy and integrity. In the face of adversity, our role is to shed light on the truth, no matter how challenging the circumstances may be."
On the occasion, the Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Prof Garima Gupta highlighted the various opportunities available in the media sector and encouraged the students to make the most of this internship by actively participating and engaging in all scheduled activities.
She further emphasized the role being played by the University of Jammu under the visionary leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai, through various initiatives to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application by making knowledge acquisition more open, fluid and dynamic.
“The 10-day program will include workshops, field visits, and hands-on training sessions conducted by industry experts and faculty members of the department,” said Prof Garima Gupta, adding that this comprehensive internship is designed to equip the students with the necessary skills and knowledge required to excel in the dynamic field of journalism and media studies.
Dr Pardeep Singh Bali, lecturer in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, engaged the students with the basics and introduction to journalism, covering essential topics such as reporting and sourcing. Similarly, Kumerjit Chajgotra, lecturer in the Department, took session on different types of writings pertaining to journalism.
