JU's DYD Students to undergo Internship at IIT Mumbai under e-Yantra Initiative

In a unique initiative focused on sustainability and climate change, IIT Mumbai has launched an internship program specifically designed for students from Jammu and Kashmir's 'Design Your Degree' (DYD) program. Thirty undergraduate students from J&K will join 80 e-Yantra interns, working together in six collaborative groups of 20 to tackle critical global issues.

6771Eighteen students from the University of Jammu’s innovative four-year Undergraduate Design Your Degree program have been selected for this internship, which  commenced today with a comprehensive full day workshop to raise awareness and educating students on pressing sustainability and climate change issues. This workshop will serve as a catalyst for collaboration and innovation. A mid-term progress review will ensure all groups remain on track and provide necessary course corrections to enhance the quality and impact of their projects. The program will culminate in a final exhibition on June 30, 2024, where students will present their innovative solutions to the general public, showcasing their hard work and creativity.

To provide a balanced and enriching experience, the interns will also enjoy recreational activities such as bird watching at IIT Mumbai and exploring the historic Kanheri (Buddhist) Caves on Sundays. Running parallel to these activities, the e-Yantra MOOC also commenced on June 1 and will culminate on  June 30, providing essential training and resources to all interns. The internship period will conclude with final demonstrations during the last week of June, marking the end of this intensive month-long program.

This internship aims to introduce the J&K 'Design Your Degree' students to programming using Linux  based operating system. The course covers BASH scripting, Python programming language, version control, and command-line usage. This course will provide a solid foundation in computer programming, which will be valuable for various academic tasks. At the end of the course, students will need to compete a challenge activity based on the course content. The e-yantra team will mentors the students throughout the one month internship program.

By participating in the e-Yantra Innovation Challenge, students will address real-world problems, developing solutions that could lead to research projects or startups. This comprehensive experience is designed to equip DYD students with the skills and confidence needed for successful careers or entrepreneurial ventures, empowering them to make significant contributions to their communities and beyond.

The Design Your Degree program has been specifically crafted to meet market needs, offering a well-rounded and interdisciplinary learning experience. It empowers students to shift from seeking jobs to creating opportunities, granting them the freedom to choose subjects aligned with their passions and aspirations. The program equips students with a broad spectrum of skills, including life skills, soft skills, teamwork, analytical capabilities, digital and technical proficiency, problem-solving prowess, mathematical abilities, and critical and creative thinking.
