JU Concludes ‘Three Day Theatre Workshop’ at Kathua Campus with Enthusiastic Participation and Creativity

With enthusiastic participation and creative expressions, Three Days Theatre Workshop held from 06-06-2024 to 08-06-2024 concluded here at Kathua Campus of the University of Jammu. As part of the outreach program of the Department of Students Welfare, the workshop was organised under the patronage of the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai. The workshop,  guided by Prof. Prakash Antahal, Dean Students Welfare, brought togetheraspiring actors, theatre enthusiasts, and seasoned professionals for an immersive experience. Throughout the workshop, participants were engaged in a variety of activities, including acting exercises, improvisation sessions,character development, and script analysis. Led by experienced facilitator and Drama Instructor, Mr. Sumeet Sharma, the sessions provided a supportive environment for participants to explore their artistic abilities and develop their skills in theatre performance. The workshop commenced on 6th of June, 2024 with an inspiring opening ceremony and an engaging Day 1 session, where participants experienced different theatre activities and techniques which are beneficial for the overall personality development by enhancing confidence. Day 2 focused on scene work, stage presence, and collaborative ensemble  practices, while on Day 3, Mr. Sumeet Sharma delved into more intricate elements of theatre, building upon the foundation laid in the previous days. This involved exploring deeper character development and refining performance techniques. 

During the valedictory ceremony, participants dazzled the 9698audience with a diverse array of performances, blending singing, dancing, and theatrical expression in captivating group presentations.  Mr. Sumeet Sharma while expressing his thoughts, stressed that it has been a privilege to witness participant’s dedication, creativity, and passion throughout this workshop. From the initial warm-up exercises to the final moments on stage, each of them has shown remarkable  growth and commitment to their craft. Participant’s willingness to embrace vulnerability, and collaborate with their fellow actors has truly been inspiring. 

Reflecting on the success of the workshop, Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus while addressing the audience articulated gratitude to all the participants, facilitators, and volunteers who contributed to its success. He added that Theatre has the power to inspire, educate, and unite people from all walks of life and the Campus is pleased to have provided a platform for individuals to explore their creativity and express themselves through the performing arts. He further narrated that plans are already underway for such workshops and events in future as the Kathua Campus continues its mission to promote the performing arts and empower students to unleash their creative potential in tune with National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020.  

The proceedings of the Programme were conducted by Dr. Meenakshi Thakur and the formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Nomita Sharma. The workshop was attended by Dr. Sourabh, Mr. Amit Sharma, Dr. Pankaj Khajuria, faculty members, staff and students of UIET and Kathua Campus and Government Degree Colleges of the area.
