MMTTC University of Jammu successfully concluded a Refresher Course in Commerce and Management on the theme “Emerging Paradigms in Business Education,” organized from November 18th to 30th November, 2024. The two-week academic event aimed at empowering educators with cutting-edge knowledge and tools for reimagining business education to meet the evolving demands of a globalized world. The course was led by Prof. S.K. Pandita, Director of MMTTC, with Prof. Gurjeet Kaur serving as the Course Coordinator and Dr. Sunil Kumar as the Deputy Coordinator. The meticulously curated sessions were conducted by distinguished resource persons from premier institutions across India, including Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra, University of Hyderabad, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), and Punjabi University, Patiala. The course began with a comprehensive session on Research Methodology in Business Education by Prof. R.D. Sharma, Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, followed by a talk on Academic Leadership and Institution Building by Prof. Ashok Aima, former Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jammu. The inaugural day concluded with Dr. Jaspreet Kaur from Delhi School of Business conducting an insightful workshop on Qualitative Research with NVIVO, equipping participants with advanced research tools. The first week also emphasized innovative approaches to teaching and research. Sessions such as Generative AI for Business Education and Open Educational Resources (OERs) by Dr. P. Murugan from the University of Hyderabad underscored the transformative role of technology in academia. Meanwhile, Prof. Harmeen Soch from the Punjab Technical University delivered a compelling lecture on Emotional Intelligence at Workplaces, focusing on holistic organizational growth. Interactive discussions on Total Quality Management (TQM) in Business Education by Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din and Interpersonal Relationship Management by Prof. Pooja Khatri delved into the nuances of leadership and collaboration in academic institutions. The ethical dimensions of research were explored in depth by Dr. Nishtha Malik from Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow, in her session on Upholding Ethics in Research.
The second week was dedicated to advanced research tools, conceptual frameworks, and practical insights. Dr. Neeraj Kaushik from NIT Kurukshetra conducted sessions on Developing Conceptual Models Using Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM), providing participants with actionable methodologies for research. Sessions on Scale Development and Validation by Prof. S.C. Das from BHU and Service Learning in Management Education by Dr. Anurag Singh of BHU’s Institute of Management Studies highlighted innovative pedagogical practices. The course also explored forward-looking paradigms, including Supply Chain 5.0 by Dr. Rashi Taggar from SMVDU, and Shrimad Bhagwat Gita & Sustainable Ecosystem by Prof. Tejinder Sharma, offering a blend of traditional and modern perspectives to ensure sustainability. Sessions such as Navigating Academia: Insights of an Academic Administrator by Prof. Baldev Setia and Leading with Purpose: Exploring the Synergy of Sustainable Finance and Corporate Governance by Dr. Pooja Mehta equipped participants with leadership strategies for navigating contemporary challenges in education and governance.
One of the key themes of the course was the application of artificial intelligence and analytics in education. Prof. R.K. Singh from Delhi University led a dual-session on AI in Education, while Prof. Rajashekar from the University of Hyderabad concluded the program with a session on Business Analytics, emphasizing data-driven decision-making in business and academia.
The valedictory session featured reflections from participants, who praised the course for its comprehensive coverage and impactful delivery. Prof. S.K. Pandita, Director of MMTTC, lauded the commitment of the participants and the expertise of the resource persons, stating, “This Refresher Course reflects our university’s commitment to fostering innovation, ethics, and sustainability in business education. It is a step toward building a community of educators and leaders who will shape the future of academia.” Prof. Gurjeet Kaur, the Course Coordinator, emphasized the importance of continuous professional development in education. Dr. Sunil Kumar, Deputy Coordinator, thanked the resource persons and participants for their enthusiastic contributions, making the event a grand success. The program concluded with collective resolve to implement the learnings from the course to transform the landscape of business education in India.
