The Office of the Coordinator for Disability Initiatives, University of Jammu, organized a Need Assessment session to address the specific requirements and concerns of students with benchmark disabilities. The session, held under the leadership of Prof. Sarika Manhas, Coordinator of Disability Initiatives, aimed to foster an inclusive and supportive educational environment for students with disabilities.
The event was graced by Ms. Sandhya Dhar, a renowned disability rights activist and recipient of the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar, who attended as a special invitee. Her insights and experiences provided valuable perspectives to the discussion, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving disability inclusion in higher education.
During the meeting, student representatives from various teaching departments of the University shared their challenges and suggestions regarding accessibility, academic support, and infrastructure. Prof. Manhas assured the participants that the university is committed to addressing their concerns and enhancing the facilities available to them. She highlighted ongoing initiatives and proposed measures aimed at empowering students with disabilities to realize their full potential.
