Centre for Studies in Museology University of Jammu Course objectives Course objectives of PG Diploma in Museology and Conservation A Postgraduate (PG) Diploma in Museology and Conservation typically aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of museum practices, including the preservation, conservation, and management of cultural heritage. The outcomes are- 1. Students will gain in-depth knowledge of the principles and practices of museology, including the history, philosophy, and social role of museums. 2. Graduates will be equipped with practical skills in the conservation and restoration of artifacts. 3. Students will learn effective techniques for cataloguing, documenting, and managing museum collections, ensuring their long-term preservation and accessibility. 4. The programme will teach students how to design and curate museum exhibitions, including the planning, organization, and interpretation of exhibits to engage and educate the public. 5. Graduates will be prepared for the administrative and managerial aspects of running a museum, including strategic planning, fundraising, marketing, and community engagement. 6. Students will develop research skills relevant to museology and conservation, including methodologies for documenting and studying artifacts and museum collections. 7. Course objectives of Three-month online certificate course- 1. Identify properly both Cultural and Natural Heritage objects 2. Know the acquisition methods for proper collection of objects for cultural centres. 3. Document the Tangible, Intangible and Natural Heritage objects. 4. Apply preventive and curative conservation methods to protect the heritage objects 5. Prepare the Exhibition plan to display heritage objects through different modern technology. 6. Overcome the global crisis by making museums more appropriate and effective through this training. 7. Learn how to make museum and cultural centre as a destination of cultural tourism 8. Learn how to make museums and other cultural organisation as resource centre for local communities. Course objectives of Cultural Heritage and Art Appreciation (Open Course 4th Sem)- 1. To provide comprehensive understanding of the importance of heritage with special reference to India 2. Identify properly both local Cultural and Natural Heritage objects 3. To know the heritage of Jammu and Kashmir 4. Students will be aware of the ethical and legal issues related heritage.
