AC endorses, Innovative Four Year Under Graduate Program - 'Design Your Degree, College on Wheels (Gayan Udhay Express), Establishment of Research and Development Cell

Ac also endorses the introduction of Online M.Com & MA English Program in DD &OE, Executive MBA Programme

 Exuding confidence that the University of Jammu will touch new milestones in academic excellence, said Vice Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai, while chairing the Academic Council meeting.  He commended the heads, deans, Directors and various committee members for the successful conduct of special convocation. He urged faculty members to strengthen their academic credentials and make an effort to collaborate within and outside country with best of the institutions. He added that the university has always focused on the overall development of students, and in due course of time the credits will be awarded for participation in sports, cultural, NSS, NCC   and other curricular activities. Prof. Rai exuded that curriculum should be designed to meet societal and industrial needs. He said that efforts are being made to improve the quality of publications, and in that regard University is envisaging to launch an app to ensure that appropriate research work and other publications/fellowships reach to the faculty members in time. “University of Jammu has excelled immensely in the fields of academics and research and this momentum has to be maintained with renewed vigour and in a team spirit”, Prof Umesh Rai said while chairing the meeting of the Academic Council. Seeking continued and active participation of all the members during the deliberations on various issues related to academics, examinations and research, Prof. Rai  said that these matters should be thoroughly examined in corroboration to the laid down statutes and procedures by the various academic bodies for further discussions.

 Earlier, Prof. Anju Bhasin, Dean academic affairs, in her welcome address outlined a brief roadmap of meetings in accordance with NEP 2020.599346

During the meeting, around 43 agenda items were presented by Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar, University of Jammu. Threadbare discussions were held on each of the agenda items along with the Action Taken Report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council.

Introduction of Innovative Four Year Under Graduate Program - 'Design Your Degree'; while  adoption of Scheme and Statutes for UG Programme - Design Your Degree was  endorsed by academic council. College on wheels (Gyan Udhay Express) shall be started in the month  of November 2023. In this programme it is expected that 1000 students and 100 mentors shall be participating. The matter with regard to participation & Inclusion of Directorate of Distance & Online Education (DD&OE) students in the Display your Talent competition of University of Jammu was also endorsed.

With regard to merger of Learning Support Centres of Directorate of Distance & Online education was endorsed. University is the first and only university in the UT J&K to offer online programme as category I university under UGC-DEB regulations. Online M.com and M.A programme shall be started from August 2023. The item with regard to introduction of Post Graduate Diploma Course in Intellectual Property Law in the Department of Law from the Academic Session 2023-24; was endorsed whereas start of Post Graduate Diploma Course in Media and Law in the Department of Law from the Academic Session 2023-24;  was also endorsed. 

The proposal with regard to the revised Mode of Admissions to the various Post Graduate Masters / Diploma Programmes of study of the University of Jammu running in its Main/ Offsite Campuses and Affiliated PG Colleges for the Academic Session 2023-24 and onwards was endorsed in  the meeting

The draft guidelines for Establishment of Research and Development Cell in the University of Jammu and Research Policy of the University of Jammu was also approved in the meeting.

 The proposal with regard to introduction of following Diploma courses to be offered by the Disaster Management Centre, University of Jammu including Diploma in Mountain Craft & Disaster Management ii) Diploma in Snow Craft & Disaster Management was also endorsed. University of Jammu shall start executive MBA programme in The Business School from the academic session 2023-24.

The academic council also resolved the introduction to Utsaah, The Clubs of the University of Jammu whereas all the clubs shall be supported by the office of Dean Students welfare.

Dr Sumita Sharma, Deputy Registrar conducted the proceeding and also presented formal vote of thanks.

Various other important academic matters of the University related to admission, examination, research etc were also discussed in the Academic Council meeting, which was attended by Prof Anju Bhasin, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Rajni Kant, Dean Research Studies,  Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director, Directorate of Distance and Online Education, Prof. Rajeev Rattan, Director CDC, Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Director DIQA, Prof Parkash Anathal, DSW, Sh Sanjeev Mahajan, Controller of Examinations, Deans of various Faculties, Rectors/Directors of the Offsite campuses, Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, College Principals and other officials of the University.
