JU celebrates National Sports Day 2024

The Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu celebrated National Sports Day 2024 at the University Campus. Prof. Umesh Rai,  Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, was the Chief Guest whereas Dr. Jatinder Khajuria, Finance Officer University of Jammu, Sh. Ranjeet Kalra, Member of Sports Council, Dr. Rupali Salathia, Member Board of Sports, Sh. Rashid Ahmed Choudhary, Former International Fencer, Sh. Ravinder Singh, Former International Athlete, Sh. Sharat Chander Singh, General Secretary J&K Athletic Association, Sh. Abhishek Jain, General Secretary Kick-Boxing Association, were the Guests of honour on this occasion.

Prominent personalities in Sports, coaches and managers of the medalist teams, players, office bearers of different games and sports who directly or indirectly supported the Directorate with their tireless efforts and achievements made the University of Jammu feel proud were special invitees.

  Speaking on the ocassion, Prof. Umesh Rai,  emphasized that embracing sports not only encourages sportsmanship but also recognizes the dedication of athletes and the achievements they bring to their nations. He added that National Sports Day serves as a reminder to motivate and support athletes, acknowledging their hard work and the teamwork they display.

 Prof. Rai highlighted the importance of National Sports Day, noting that it is a day to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and unity that sports foster.

 Prof. Rai, complimented the entire staff of the Directorate and also appreciated the efforts of the Directorate for conducting such events throughout the year. The Vice Chancellor also announced that the University will organize events of National level in the future for the promotion of Sports in J&K. He further

 The impressive demonstrations of Yoga, Fencing, Wrestling, Gatka, Wushu, were performed during the function. The Budding players of the various sports academics also demonstrated skills of their respective games during the occasion.

 The prominent personalities of J&K in Sports, players along with Coaches & Managers who won medals for the University in All India Inter University / National/ International competitions for the session 2023-24 were felicitated with Souvenir Blazer along with University Crest & an award of excellence in the form of memento. In addition, the employees and Students of various PG Departments of University of Jammu who had won medals in Jammu University Employees (M&W) tournaments, Inter-Departmental (M&W) tournaments and Inter-Hostels Tournaments were also awarded with Mementoes.

 The proceedings of the function were conducted by Ms. Lakshika Jamwal and Mr. Yamneesh Thakur students of Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Jammu University. The master of the ceremony was Mr. Vimal Kishore and the formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Mandeep Singh, Assistant Professor, University of Jammu.
