Department of Computer Science & IT, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu organized a Campus Visit and Hands-on Training on Information Technology for the students of Government Higher Secondary School, Jakhbar, Kathua. More than 50 students along with faculty members visited the Campus and hands-on training on Information Technology was imparted to them. Mr. Deepak Shastri, Technical Lead, Cyber Security Risk Services, Wipro Technologies, Gurugram was the resource person from the industry. Mr. Shastri while addressing the students, he highlighted the importance of higher-order skills such as creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, visualization and idea generation in the present era to compete at the global forum. He gave a detailed presentation on emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Internet of Things, 3D Printing, Simulation, Cyber Security, Block Chain, Quantum Computing etc. and talked about various Government initiatives pertaining to technology in the field of education. Dr.Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu highlighted the requirement of awareness regarding Information Technology in contemporary times and said that the Hands-on training would benefit the students of Government Higher Secondary School, Jakhbar in their future endeavours as well. Further, she said that New Education Policy 2020 focuses on multidisciplinary learning and reiterated that there is no separation between vocational and academic streams. She further highlighted the announcements of the first AmritKaal Education Budget 2023 where the focus is to bridge the gap between the skill-development eco-system and traditional degree education. She further elaborated on various technology-oriented initiatives which have been announced in the education budget and concluded her speech by assuring every possible cooperation from Kathua Campus, University of Jammu. Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Incharge Head (Computer Science), Kathua Campus, University of Jammu welcomed the resource person and participants and also gave a detailed presentation on Campus Profile and NEP-2020. Dr. Sunny Sharma delivered vote of thanks whereas Ms. Ritika Goyal and Mr. Pranav Ratta coordinated the whole programme. Mr. Amit Sharma and other faculty members of the Campus and Sh. Kewal Bali, Smt. Sunit Devi, Mr. Natish Chalotra and Ms. Sunita Andotra from Government Higher Secondary School, Jakhbar were also present.
