The Directorate of Colleges Development Council was established in the year 1979 in the University of Jammu. The Directorate facilitates development of colleges for adequate facilities, academic and physical in order to raise the standards of learning, teaching and research so as to contribute towards better academic and administrative functioning of the colleges.

The role of the Directorate is to grant affiliation to open new colleges/ to start various programmes. At present the University has granted affiliation in favour of the 75 Government (Degree College (65), Engineering College (1), Medical College (4), Ayurvedic College(1), Dental College(1), Nursing College (2) and Architecture College(1)) and 80 Non-Government Colleges (Colleges of Education(52), Degree Colleges(12), Law Colleges(3), Engineering College(4), Medical College(1), Dental College(1), Ayurvedic College(1), Physiotherapy College(1), Nursing College(4) and Physical Education(1) ).

This Directorate also carries out the inspection of the colleges from time to time to see that academic programmes are carried out smoothly and quality standards are adhered to. It also reviews the inspection/audit reports of the colleges and suggests remedies and take action for removing the deficiencies reported. The Directorate also helps colleges in conducting outreach programmes in time with National Education Policy, 2020.
