Centre for Women’s Studies, JU organizes Essay Writing Competition

The Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu organized an online “Essay Writing Competition” last month for the students and scholars of the University of Jammu, the result of which was declared today. The topics for the essay writing were Moving beyond Stereotypical Gender Binaries’ & ‘Women in Multitasking Roles: Problems and Prospects for the scholars and for the PG students the topics included ‘Women Rights in India: Problems & Prospects’ and ‘Challenges of being a Woman’. The students from diverse departments participated in the competition which was held to sensitize and create awareness regarding women’s issues.

The winners of the Competition in the Scholars category were:

Ms. Aroosa Jan Mattoo (1st prize) Deptt. of Botany,

Ms Pankhuri Aggarwal (IInd Prize) Deptt. of English.

Ms. Amandeep Kaur Nanda (IIIrd Prize) Deptt. of Psychology.

The winners of the competition in PG Students Category were:

Ms. Heena Ali (Ist Prize) School of Hospitality and Tourism Management ( SHTM)

Ms. Ayushi Aggarwal and Vasudha Sawhney (IInd Prize) Deptt. of English and The Law School respectively.

Ms. Pratyush Sharma (IIIrd Prize) The Law School

Prof. Parkash C. Anthal, Dean Students Welfare was the Chief Guest on this occasion. He congratulated the winners and participants as well as appreciated the efforts of the Centre for organizing such type of events. Further, he also assured full support to the Centre in its future endeavours by collaborating with the Centre. Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, also congratulated the winners and applauded the participants for taking a keen interest in this competition and writing their views so well on various relevant topics of gender concern. Dr. Hema Gandotra, Senior Asstt. Professor Department of Sociology was also present in the program.  Dr Saranjit Kour and Dr Priyanka Katoch, Faculty members, Centre for Women’s Studies conducted and coordinated the event.
