Department of Life Long Learning, University of Jammu, today organized One Day Workshop on “Youth Leadership and Gender Justice” for the students of GDC, Kathua today. The programme was part of Extension and Outreach Programme of University of Jammu.The programme washeld under the guidance of Dr. Kavita Suri, Director, DLL University of Jammu.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Asha Ram Sharma , Principal of the college. In his Welcome address Prof. Asha Ram Sharma appreciated the efforts of DLL, University of Jammu for organizing such an awareness programme in collaboration with Career Counselling and Placement Cell of Govt. Degree College, Kathua.
The special Resource Persons were Prof. Poonam Dhawan, former Dean academic Affair, University of Jammu, Dr. Kavita Suri, Director , Department of Life Long Learning, University of Jammu , Dr. Savita Nair , Department of Law and Dr. Rewa Khajuria , Department of Life Long Learning , University of Jammu.
Prof. Poonam Dhawan deliberated on the importance of Youth in bringing gender parity. She stressed upon the youth to come forward to eradicate the social evils like Sexual Harassment.She stressed that Gender parity can only be realized if Youth of today make it a part of their life style.
Dr. Kavita Suri, in her highly interactive deliberation, impressed upon the students to raise their voice against gender discrimination in the society. She emphasized that for any society to make progress , youth has to make gender parity a way of life because with half of population still under stress, how they can contribute to growth of families and society at large.
Dr. Savita Nair in her address highlighted various legal remedies available to address the problems of gender discrimination. She motivated the students to speak for themselves as well as for their colleagues, whenever they feel that discrimination is being done on the basis of gender.
The programme was attended by more than 100 students . The students also appreciated the Department of Life Long learning , JU for conducting such a programme in the college and desired for conducting more of such programmes in future.
Prof Rakesh Singh, Convener Career Counseling and Placement Cell of the college, presented formal vote of thanks . The proceedings of the entireprogramme were effectively conducted by Dr. Anupma Arora.
